How to Tell If Pokémon Products Are Factory Sealed

Resealed and tampered Pokémon products are a real problem in the hobby: someone opens a box or pack, removes the valuable cards and reseals it to look new. Knowing what a genuine factory seal looks like protects your money. This guide covers what to check on booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes and booster packs. Every product in our factory-sealed Pokémon range is inspected before it ships.

Check the shrink wrap

  • Tight and smooth. Factory wrap sits snug against the box with neat, even seams. Loose, baggy or heavily wrinkled wrap is a warning sign.
  • Printed wrap on many English products. Many English booster boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes use shrink wrap printed with a repeating Poké Ball or logo pattern. Plain wrap on a product that normally has printed wrap deserves a closer look; compare with official product photos.
  • Clean seams. Melted, uneven or doubled seams can mean the box was rewrapped with a heat gun.
  • No tears or tape. Small slits, holes or tape near edges can indicate the box was opened.

Check the box

  • Look for crisp printing and colors that match the official product.
  • Check corners and flaps for glue marks, bends or signs of opening.
  • A booster box display should sit firmly with no obvious empty space or rattling.
  • If you can, compare weight with a known sealed example. A box missing packs feels lighter.

Check booster packs

  • Crimps: genuine packs have even, clean crimp lines top and bottom. Wavy, melted or glued crimps suggest resealing.
  • Wrapper: the foil should be smooth, without stretched areas, pinholes or wrinkles near the crimps.
  • Printing: blurry art, wrong fonts or off colors can indicate counterfeits.
  • “Weighed” packs: loose packs that may have been weighed or picked over are a risk; buy packs from sealed boxes or trusted sellers.

Japanese products

Japanese booster boxes are shrink wrapped at the factory, and standard Japanese packs hold 5 cards. Check the same signs: tight wrap, clean seams, crisp printing and even crimps. See our guide to English vs Japanese Pokémon cards.

Check the seller

  • Buy from retailers that sell factory-sealed product and stand behind it with a real returns process.
  • Be wary of prices far below market, especially for popular or older sets.
  • Look for accurate product names and clear photos.

Frequently asked questions

Can a resealed box look perfect?

Sometimes. Skilled reseals can be hard to spot, which is why buying from a trusted source matters as much as inspecting the wrap.

Does every English product have printed shrink wrap?

No. Many booster boxes and ETBs do, but some products ship in clear factory wrap. Compare with official photos of the specific item.
